Mary Barbour
Mary organised a rent freeze for poverty driven wife’s during WW1. As all their husbands went to fight in the war greedy landlords put tenemental rents up so that the wives could not afford to pay. She organised all the wives to put a freeze on paying rents and took her fight to Westminster. She won her fight and a law was passed preventing landlords from robbing the women. Mary then became a Glasgow City Councillor until the thirties fighting for the rights of women at that time.
