Constance M Bedson
Miss Bedson taught me French at Manchester High School for Girls and helped me to get a place at an Oxford college. She went on become headmistress of a prestigious girls' school in Cambridge. Many years later, she happened to be sitting in the same row of seats as me and my husband at a music festival in North Yorkshire. 'Of course I remember you,' she said when I said hello. She deserves to be remembered for her devotion to teaching often ungrateful pupils, such as I was when a schoolgirl.
