Betty Campbell
Betty Campbell was a pioneering figure in Welsh education and a powerful advocate for diversity and equality. Born in 1934 in Butetown, Cardiff—a multicultural area known as Tiger Bay—she grew up in a working-class family. Despite being told by a teacher that a Black girl from her background could never succeed, Betty was determined to prove them wrong.
She became the first Black head teacher in Wales when she was appointed to lead Mount Stuart Primary School in her hometown by of Cardiff.
